Hey, so I'm Brenna of the Hills of Almoatza. I'm a castaway from my village, the village of Ranuka. I'm a weird girl. I mean, like, I play the bagpipes and the didgeridoo and I like tuna salad with red berries and playing fetch. But when I play fetch, I chase the fetcher. Yeah, I know, weird. All weird. But here's the coolest thing about me!! And the reason I got banished.
I ride dragons.
Chapter 1
When It All Began...
Little Brenna toddled around the room with her babysitter giggling with delight. Her little fur dress explains what the climate was sometimes like. Furs from deer and antelope and bears carpeted the floor and bear and deer and antelope heads adorned the walls as trophies from great hunts. The wooden walls were only the "wallpaper" of her house. Hidden behind the wooden boards were stone walls built for resisting attacks.
"What attacks?" you may ask "These guys are tough, right?"
Dragon attacks. The outside of the houses sported no wood, for fire safety.
Little Brenna was as naive as she could be, though. She had yet to see a dragon violently attacking all that she loved and called home. People screaming out in terror. Blood spurting out from a dead dragon on the ground as men pulled it away on a cart. Dead bodies being put on boats to be sent away for burial. And the cry of a dragon that would change it all.
Chapter 1-2: When Destiny Was Helped Along
Little Brenna was tucked into her warm bed of hides and kissed goodnight by her father.
"Papa," she called "Tell me a story. About Granpa."
Papa chuckled and sat down on the end of her bed.
"Well, when I was just a boy I speared a dragon in my mama's flower be-"
"No, Papa. I want a new one! I want one about Granpa."
"Alright then, sweetie. When your grandpa was just a boy, about 17, they decided to chop trees somewhere else. He and his buddies went down south. Well, his friend thought he saw a dragon and persuaded the leader to leave. Several months later, in the middle of winter, your grandpa gathered up a party of men and went back south. He didn't believe that there were dragons there. Well, he didn't see a single dragon there. Now, every winter, they go down south and chop down trees and replant. that's where we got our floors from."
Little Brenna was fast asleep, but she would never forget that story.
Chapter 1-3: There's a Dragon, Sugar
Little Brenna stood on the cedar chest with her hands pressed against the window. A black dragon sat grooming itself on the roof of a neighbor's house. It had been from a foreign land and had never seen humans before. Puffs of fire came out and Brenna oohed and oohed. Her mother came over and looked over where Brenna was and saw it too.
"Oh, Brenna! get away before it sees you!!" she grabbed her and called for her father. Within seconds many men were being roused and tried to fight it. It flew down and and growled in defense. As it was pulled down on to its side, it let out one final cry, the cry that Brenna understood.
Chapter 1-4: Teen Life
Brenna enjoyed talking with her friends in the spring about gossip and old tales. She had a boyfriend, named Daniel, and they'd known each other forever. He would do anything for her, anything.
Brenna was a normal teen, or so everyone thought. she loved books. When the weather was warm and breezy, she would go out for a walk in the woods. Sometimes she would help at the Dragon Nursery for Hard-Hearted Dragons(unusual for teens). It was for orphaned dragons. They would be made to fight one another for war while others were slaughtered for scales and venom. The meat was a delicacy favored by many, for it possessed immunity vitamins. she would release endangered species babies.
She worked at a sewing shop. She didn't sew, though. She was supposed to go find dyes in their natural and crush them into powders that could be used to dye items like cloth and clothes. The searching for dyes in their natural forms is what was mainly important, though.
Chapter 2
A Dragon for Flying With A Heart
The seamstress called for Brenna to enter the room.
"I need blues 'n' reds! Ya' hear me?! BLUES 'n' REDS!!!!!!" the seamstress exclaimed. "I'LL PAY YA' IF YA' JUST DID IT!"
"Drunkard," Brenna muttered as she walked through the forest. ''Needs all the help she can get."
As she squatted down she spotted a mossy little spot on the ground. She moved towards it and began scraping through the brush. She sat beside a water hole as she plucked through the weeds. Suddenly a warm snuffle landed on her neck. She turned to face the long snout of...
A Dragon
Chapter 2-2: Is This Yours?
The dragon puffed out smoke from its nostrils. it looked down at the puddle of water. It seemed to say, "That's my footprint, if you didn't know."
"He-hello. Is this your territory? I-I'll move. Okay?" she stuttered.
The dragon let out a cry and yawned.
It paced around as if to mark its territory with feet. Then it looked back at her and Brenna noticed something odd about this dragon. It looked familiar. As if it were...
A Ghost
Chapter 2-3: I Knew Your Mother.
"Are you a ghost?"
The dragon looked puzzled and simply shook its head.
"My mother is now," it seemed to tell her.
"Then I must of known your mother, then. 14 years ago I heard her cry as she died.
I ride dragons.
